Moving Help & Support

Baugh Deliveries Ltd have a lot of useful information based on their expertise, so we have put together this advice to help you with your move.

DON'T FORGET!

Moving house or Business premises can be a really stressful and there are plenty of things that you will need to take into account and pay for.
So many things may become a priority and something you might not have considered is post redirection.

If you don't redirect your old post, sensitive documents or important documents could continue being delivered to your old address. This could potentially leave you vulnerable to fraud and identity theft. If you are unsure about how to redirect your post, then we have put together a quick guide that should be able to help.

Changing Address Checklist

You should make sure you have notified all of the relevant companies and people who may send you sensitive information, that you have moved. This includes both people and other places such as banks, your employer, courts, solicitors etc.

People you should notify including:

  • Family members and friends

  • Your employer

  • Bank & other financial services

  • Car insurances and DVLA

  • Student loans company

  • Pension provider

  • Utilities provider

  • Child's school (if applicable)

  • Health services e.g hospital

  • Police, Courts, Probation Office

If you have left this until the last minute, then you might not have time to notify all of these people in time. If this becomes the case then you might need to think about a Royal Mail redirection, to ensure that you are still receiving sensitive materials.

Royal Mail Redirect
You can redirect all of your personal mail from one address to another by using the Royal Mail Redirection service. This means that all of your post will be forwarded for either three, six or twelve months after you move out. Even if you have notified companies about your change of address, this can still be a good idea in case you have forgotten to notify anyone. It can take five days for this service to be set up, but you can apply online up to three months before you move. You can still put this in place up to six months after you move out too. The price of this service is charged per surname and varies as follows:

  • 3 Months - £31.99

  • 6 Months - £41.99

  • 12 Months - £59.99

Free Change of Address Service
Another service that you should consider when moving house is using the free change of address service online; iammoving.com. This is the largest online moving service that updates companies on your behalf to save you the hassle of getting in touch with every company that has your details.

You should take responsibility to notify the most important people and companies yourself, such as your bank, but this free service is a great way to fill in the gaps. A number of major companies subscribe to this service including the DVLA, Boots and The AA.

Conclusion
You should consider a mix of the above to make sure that you are still receiving all of your post and protect any sensitive information. Although it might not seem to be a priority, it can also ensure you don’t default on any payments and potentially face legal action.
